Protecting Animals. Supporting Communities. Responding When It Matters Most.

Solano Community Animal Response Team (CART) is Solano County’s official animal emergency response team, activated by the Office of Emergency Services (OES) at the request of Animal Care and Control. When disaster strikes, we’re on the front lines—evacuating animals, providing shelter-in-place care, and coordinating transfers to trusted partner shelters when needed.

Our team is made up of trained, committed volunteers—each one a registered Disaster Service Worker (DSW) with specialized Fireline training. We’re proud to serve our community with professionalism, compassion, and year-round readiness.

Trusted. Proven. Ready.

Solano CART has earned a reputation as one of Northern California’s leading CARTs. During the devastating LNU Complex Fires of 2020, we cared for over 440 animals—some evacuated, others sheltered in place. For nearly a month, we worked tirelessly to protect animals and reunite them with their families.

Our experience and dedication have led us to assist neighboring counties during major emergencies, including the Caldor Fire in 2021, and we’re a proud collaborator with CVET (California Veterinary Emergency Team).

HOW WE CAN HELP

When disaster strikes, our team of trained, sworn disaster services volunteers can be activated to provide support. For safety and liability reasons, Solano CART cannot at any time evacuate sick or injured animals without permission from Solano County Animal Control.

During any type of evacuation, it is the owner’s responsibility to arrange temporary housing for their animals whether it be with a member of the community or an incident-related shelter.

Solano CART does not provide sheltering or housing services. We do however maintain a list of community volunteers who may be willing to temporarily house livestock during an emergency.

EVACUATION WARNINGS

When an evacuation warning is issued for your area by Solano County, our evacuation team can be contacted for assistance. We encourage community members to work with Solano CART before an emergency to create a DAP to keep on file with our organization.

EVACUATION ORDERS

When an evacuation order is issued for your area by Solano County, Solano CART must be activated through the Office of Emergency Services (OES) to assist, and owners should contact animal control directly. This allows our team of trained volunteers to partner with the county for a coordinated and safe evacuation of animals.
